Accessibility
All new websites at Cornell are required to comply with WCAG standards. Our trained specialists review all new websites and applications built by our team to ensure they meet these guidelines. If you have a website or app that we did not develop, we can also perform standalone reviews to ensure your site is accessible to all users. To contact our team you can fill out the Web Accessibility Request Form.
Accessibility reviews
We use a variety of tools and techniques that cover the full breadth of WCAG standards. These guidelines are summarized here in our helpful web accessibility testing process document that you can also use on your own.
Our approach includes:
- Manually testing with keyboard and screen readers – we don’t just throw a tool at it and call it a day, we dive into your website’s functionality to ensure it’s accessible.
- Strategically using tools such as Siteimprove and WAVE
- Color contrast analysis to ensure that text and key interface elements are visible to vision-impaired users
Audit documents
If we are developing your website or app we do a review after development to double check compliance before we launch your site.
If you have come to us to review a website that we have not recently developed or an app purchased from an outside vendor we can review your site and provide two deliverables:
- A checklist spreadsheet listing every test conducted. You can view the template spreadsheet here.
- The summary document contains only issues assigned a “Fail” grade. You can view the template summary document here.
Unless the project agreement states otherwise, accessibility issues resulting from content entry are the responsibility of the customer to resolve.
Remediation
It is common for several issues to crop up after an audit. We offer remediation services for a fee, which can include anything from consulting to implementing all necessary fixes.
